Thanks for reading and commenting Amitabh! You’re right—leaders must care about retention, but not more than they care about the individual human. We sometimes make the mistake of thinking that to care about the individual means we aren’t good stewards of our organization. But I think that’s wrong. I can absolutely care a great deal about a person, and have a job to do to serve the best interests of my organization—very rarely are these mutually exclusive. This is because humans and organizations need different things. One need not suffer to support the other. A great leader finds the win-win as much as possible, and puts both individuals and the organization on the path to success through creative, inclusive, and thoughtful discussion and action.
