Hi Dave,

I’m glad you found your path to publication. I remember Seth Godin talking about the importance of “shipping” in his book Linchpin. That idea really resonated with me. Great is the enemy of good sometimes. I think it’s fantastic that you’re trying new things with Medium and reflecting on the past. Me too.

I can see how it might seem like I struggled with paralysis by analysis. But, a mother who struggles to let her child go is different from a mother who falls out of love with her child. As a mother of a human, I know I love my kid no matter what. But, my novel? Not so much.

I know people talk of their books like a ‘book baby.’ I can’t quite feel that way about anything I write. I love to write. I love to express ideas. But, I don’t feel terribly attached to them once they’re out there. It seems like you might share the same sentiment. But, you have an idea you value. If you viewed your words as “precious” it might have been much harder to go back and see things you wanted to change. Instead, you saw opportunity. I love that.

Glad to meet you.

Angela
