Hi Adam,

Thanks for reading. You ask interesting questions, ones my essay didn’t attempt to tackle. Here’s a study I found interesting if you’d like to learn more about self-objectification and the reasons for it.

I’m not sure I agree with your statement that women sexually objectify each other as often as men sexually objectify women. But if you know of any research on that, I’d be glad to learn more.

Here’s an article I found interesting about the question of women objectifying men. I’m not sure if it provides the why. But it suggests that the pervasiveness of objectification in general makes our society more appearance-driven overall.

I agree— as I state in the article — this isn’t a single-gender issue. I don’t believe women should objectify men any more than the reverse. However, I don’t think we should dismiss the issue of sexual objectification of women by men simply because other genders participate.

I think if we address the hyper-focus on appearance and the image of perfection, and support equity for all, we go a long way of addressing the issue for all genders.

Again, I appreciate that you read the essay and are thinking about these topics. I know I’ll continue to think about them too.
